  1. What time does the event start on Saturday?

Air Waves Portrush commences on the ground at 11am Saturday and displays are from 1.00pm to 5.45pm with Red Arrows late afternoon

On Sunday Air Waves Portrush commences on the ground at 11am and displays are from 12.15pm to 4.45pm with the Red Arrows early on Sunday

 

  1. Are the Red Arrows appearing both days?

Yes approximately 5:25pm Saturday and approximately 1pm on Sunday

Air Waves Portrush takes place on the eastern side of the resort allowing use of the improved display line and the spectacular backdrop of the Giant’s Causeway and Dunluce Castle. The beautiful award-winning beach will again be available for spectators. This map shows the layout of the event: Spectating is possible all along the eastern peninsula (1.5km) but the best viewing of the air displays is at Village North (Lansdowne Green). Exhibition space is divided between two main areas – Village North (Lansdowne Green) and Village South (East Strand car park).  See map for details.

 

  1. Where is the best place to see the event?

As usual, there is free admission and free parking including additional park and ride facilities for 2017. Spectator viewing stretches from the northern tip of the peninsula at Lansdowne and along the coastal promenade, past the Arcadia, to East Strand.

Viewing is permitted from the beach (from The Arcadia to ‘The Burn’) so bring your picnic blankets. The beach from ‘The Burn’ to Curran Point (and all the sand dunes) is a prohibited area because of the display line. Any infringement will result in the cancellation of the air displays. Please note there is no access to the sea from the Arcadia to Curran Point. Whiterocks Beach will operate as usual although pedestrian between Whiterocks Beach to Portrush town is not possible.

Translink is kindly increasing the rail capacity during the show. For information on buses and trains contact Translink NI on 028 90 66 66 30. Translink has set up a bespoke page for travelling to Air Waves Portrush. http://www.translink.co.uk/airwaves/

Translink have a range of great value tickets to get people to and from the Airshow including a £22 Family & Friends Ticket offering unlimited bus and rail travel on Translink services in Northern Ireland for up to 2 adults and 4 children.

For the Sunday, visitors could also choose a £9 Bus Rambler ticket or £9 Rail Tracker ticket. Portrush rail line services will be enhanced including direct connections to/from Derry-Londonderry and there will be additional rail shuttle services between Coleraine and Portrush.

 

  1. Where is the park and ride?

The Park and ride shuttle bus service is located on Ballywillan Road and runs to the Curran Gate public access point on Causeway Street from 9am-7pm both days.

Visitors travelling from Portrush to Portstewart for the Air Waves Portstewart Saturday night entertainment are encouraged to use the 140 bus service running at normal times. Additional capacity will be added to scheduled services and the enhanced summer train timetable between Coleraine and Portrush will be in operation.

  1. What time does the Air Waves Portstewart event start?

Air Waves Portrush moves over once again to neighbouring resort Portstewart on Saturday night following its hugely successful introduction last year.  Sponsored by Morelli’s, it will feature a spectacular pyrotechnic air display from the Extra 330SC (with the possibility of a second aircraft), live music by The Illegals and a magnificent fireworks extravaganza.

Visitors travelling from Portrush to Portstewart for the Air Waves Portstewart Saturday night entertainment are encouraged to use the 140 bus service running at normal times. Additional capacity will be added to scheduled services and the enhanced summer train timetable between Coleraine and Portrush will be in operation.

 

  1. What time are the fireworks at Air Waves Portstewart?

Entertainment and competitions begin at 7pm with MC Brian Moore warming up the crowd before the twilight sky is illuminated by a spectacular pyrotechnic air display from 8pm (subject to change).

This will be followed by a live performance from The Illegals ahead of a magnificent fireworks display from the grounds of Dominican College at 9:30pm.

The event will come to a close shortly after 10pm with The Illegals taking to the stage for a final musical encore.

 

  1. Will the BBMF be attending?

BBMF will be attending on both days with the Griffin powered Spitfire Mk XIX At present all Merlin powered aircraft remain grounded.
