Ground Attractions

The on the ground visitor experience at Air Waves Portrush will include live music, trade stands, exhibition, fun zone, Motor Village, The Ulster Military Vehicle Club, The Ulster Aviation Society, Armed Forces/Cadets and an opportunity to explore Naturally North Coast and Glens Artisan Market featuring a range of high quality arts, crafts and food products! 

The ground has zones, Village South (located in East Strand Car Park)  and Village North ( located in Antrim Gardens and Lansdowne)


Village North

At Lansdowne Green & Antrim Gardens (Village North) there are the many delights of the Naturally North Coast & Glens Artisan Market along with Model Aircraft displays, Military Vehicles and re-enactments.  There is a food village and soft play section at one end of the green and at the other the Sea Cadets provide a fast and exciting recruitment experience for young people.

Ulster Military Vehicle Club


Situated at the tip of Landsdowne you will find the Ulster Military Vehicle Club.  This is the Club’s 20th Anniversary and members are planning to showcase a wide range of vehicles from the 1940’s to present day.  This includes the Wartime RAF Livery Hillman Minx Staff Car, a small vehicle which was used extensively throughout the war years and another Wartime classic,  the Jeep, brought to our shores by the American GI’s.  This particular Jeep has been returned to it’s former glory, sporting it’s wartime olive drab colours and mounted gun.  

Among the many vehicles on display will be the 8 ton ‘big gun’ the Combat Reconnaissance Light Tank (Sabre). Many variants of this vehicle served with the British Army from the Falklands, Gulf Wars to Afghanistan and some are still in service today.  

Naturally North Coast & Glens Artisan Market


Naturally North Coast & Glens Artisan Market will be located in Antrim Gardens during Air Waves Portrush.  This popular market will showcase local produce and products created by a range of talented artists, makers, crafters and food producers.  

This mix of talent provides something for everyone. You’ll find experienced traders alongside new start-ups, all working together to help provide a fantastic mixed market experience with artisan food, art and crafts

Static Helicopter Displays


The Static Helicopter Display will be located at Portrush Recreation Grounds where spectators can enjoy a RN Merlin along with a Huey and Loach. It’s not every day you get up close with these magnificent rotorcraft, especially the Merlin, so make the most of the opportunity and include this in your plans for the day!


Village North will also feature the Army Cadets, Sea Cadets, Model Aircraft Club, traders, exhibitions and Fun Zone

Village South

The main exhibition site is contained within East Strand Car Park (Village South) with various aviation displays from the RAF and Ulster Aviation Society, with the size of the structures and attractions these are positioned prominently at the front of the site. There are amazing have a go activities provided by the Army and Navy and the largest STEM experience ever to attend the show. All of these assets are positioned on the tarmac car park along with the Hospitality marquee.


Ulster Gliding Club


The Ulster Gliding Club is Northern Ireland’s sole gliding facility set in beautiful Bellarena on the shores of Lough Foyle. It was founded in 1930 by a group of local friendly aviation enthusiasts who always make newcomers very welcome!

Get up close with their static glider before watching one take to the skies as part of our air displays.


Ulster Aviation Society


The Ulster Aviation Society celebrated its 50th anniversary at Air Waves Portrush last year and received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of their efforts at preserving the aviation story.

The UAS ground display at Air Waves Portrush is always a must-see with exhibits including replicas and display aircrafts. Call in and have a chat with these enthusiastic volunteers and find out more about the fascinating history of aviation.

The Army

Army Units will display their signature kit and equipment, while providing an insight into what life is like in the Regular Army and Army Reserve.

You will have the opportunity to meet serving members of the Regular Army and part-time soldiers of the Army Reserve showcasing a full range and diversity of the roles, jobs and the people who serve in the British Army on both a full-time and part time basis.

STEM Village

Come along to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Village where you will find many interactive, fun and engaging STEM employers and educators. Click here to visit the STEM web page for more info

The Royal Air Force is an avid supporter of Air Waves Portrush and you will find its display area situated in a prime position in East Strand Car Park.

As well as providing an array of aircraft to take part in the aerial displays, a static Typhoon aircraft, the 502 reserves, Uni Air Squadron, Royal Air Force Cadets, Survival Equipment and Chefs will all be in attendance.

At the unmissable STEM Village, have-a-go with  Virtual IT Equipment and chat to full time RAF personnel or reserves to get an understanding of what their role entails.

A P2000 Fast Inshore Patrol Craft from the First Patrol Boat Squadron will attend Air Waves Portrush. Its primary role is to support the University Royal Naval Units (URNU) but it also contributes to a wide range of fleet tasking. HMS Raider and HMS Tracker make up the Faslane Patrol Boat Squadron, part of the team that safeguard Britain’s nuclear fleet.

A Royal Navy Mobile Outreach vehicle will attend the event with a number of specialist recruiters including an Aircrew Officer. There will be a selection of VR headsets on the vehicle which highlight different Royal Navy and Royal Marine experiences and roles. The Royal Navy Reserve and Royal Marine Reserve will also be in attendance.

The Royal British Legion is an avid supporter of Air Waves Portrush. The role of the RBL is to support serving and veteran Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force personnel all year round. At Air Waves Portrush, the Poppy Drop on Sunday will remember those who lost their lives on active service in all conflicts, from the beginning of the First World War right up to the present day, while also remembering all those who have served and their families.
